Description:
Built in one of the most picturesque places in Cumbria, Birdoswald (original name was "Banna"), is where you can see the longest remaining stretch of the Wall spans as far as your eye can see and explore the ruins of the Roman fort, a turret and milecastle.
The fort is a popular stopping point on Hadrian's Wall Path with the tearoom providing a welcome relief for weary legs and a rumbling tummy.
Inside the exhibition, discover more about the 1000+ soldiers who were once based here. Delve into the story of "The Wall". Get to grips with building bricks to find out how the Wall was constructed. Check out the Roman artefacts, and gaze through a periscope to take in the view from the original height.
