Description:

A 6-stage walk  following the western edge of Loch Ness. There are some indistinct sections and navigation skills are a must. The Great Glen Way is a challenging, but not very strenuous, long distance walk and is, together with the South Loch Ness Trail, now part of the "Loch Ness 360". It passes through some of the most dramatic scenery in Scotland following the entire length of the Great Glen.

From walking hub Fort William (Cape Wrath Trail, Scottish National Trail, East Highland Way and West Highland Way) to Drumnadrochit (Affric Kintail Way) and on to Inverness (John o'Groats Trail). There are many spectacular views with awesome panoramas on the Loch Ness section of the walk and many a historic and natural heritage site. The route is suitable for all levels of walkers and can be completed in 5-6 days.

Stages:

  1. Fort William - Gairlochy 17 km (Easy)
  2. Gairlochy - Laggan 19 km (Easy)
  3. Laggan - Fort Augustus 17 km (Easy) or via Invergarry: 21 km (Slightly harder)
  4. Fort Augustus - Invermoriston: "low route": 12 km (Easy) or "high route": 12 km (Slightly harder)
  5. Invermoriston - Drumnadrochit: "low route": 23,5 km (Easy) or "high route": 22 km (Slightly harder)
