Description:

Stories about this battle in September 1603 have filtered down through the ages, but proof is in this case a fickle thing. Nevertheless this site is all about a battle between the Macdonnells of Glengarry and the Mackenzies of Ross-shire.

The defeat of the Macdonalds of Glengarry supposedly took place at Lon na Fola (the Meadow of Blood) on the western shore of Loch Ness. The Macdonalds, under Allan MacRanald (Allan Dubh), were returning from an invasion of the Mackenzie country and the burning of the Church of Kilchrist when they got ambushed by the outraged Mackenzies. Nearly all were slaughtered.
