I've been to Culross many a time and every time it is the same experience. It's like being way back in time. A village in a time capsule. Culross is a very special place and it is no wonder that this village is used as a location for the Outlander television series. Steep cobbled streets lined by white-harled houses with red-tiled roofs run from the market cross to the hilltop abbey. Over the years The National Trust for Scotland has helped with the sensitive renovation of many of the buildings in the village including Culross Town House (formerly used as a courthouse and prison) and distinctive ochre coloured 16th century Culross Palace.

It’s little wonder that historic Culross is acknowledged as one of the most picturesque villages in Scotland.

There is a car park just outside, with toilet facilities. Visitors with a walking disability may find walking the sometimes quite steep streets and the access to both the Abbey and the Palace Garden difficult.
