Crovie
Region: Aberdeen(shire) & Moray
Plus Code: MMGG+C2 Crovie, Banff
This is a very well preserved fishing village, be it largely given over to holiday lets. The village sits in a narrow ledge sandwiched between water and cliffs and as the village has no cars and access is by a very steep hill, people are forced to transport their shopping by wheelbarrow from a car park at the top of the cliff!
Crovie was founded by families cleared from the lands of the estates inland in the late 18th century. They were sponsored into fishing by their old laird which became their way of life. The fishing ceased in 1953 when a large storm wrecked part of the village and the fleet.
No shops, no nothing but very special!
