Description:
This is the perfect example of a Celtic rainforest. Clinging to the lower slopes of Beinn Churlain, rising up from the shores of Loch Creran, the mild, wet Atlantic climate provides the perfect conditions for ferns, mosses and lichens to flourish. Glasdrum Wood is one of the best sites in the country to spot butterflies: the reserve is particularly noted for its population of rare chequered skipper and pearl bordered fritillary, which thrive in the wood’s open clearings. Ash and oak dominate at Glasdrum, their trunks softened by a thick coat of mosses and lichens.
