Description:
Present day Dunollie was built in the 12th century, probably by Ewan MacDougall, 3rd chief of the MacDougalls, who were descended from Somerled. There was an earlier fortification on the site, but in 698 the fortress of the kings of Dalriada, was captured and destroyed.
Dunollie is also the home of the Hope MacDougall Collection. With over 5,000 objects gathered the collection forms a diverse, and fascinating record of the region's social history.
