Description:
This is a massive, though thoroughly neglected ruin from the 16th century and commissioned by James Hepburn, Earl of Morton for his retirement. It was however left uncompleted as the Earl never did reach his years of quiet contemplation. He was heavily involved in the murder of Darnley, the second husband of Mary, Queen of Scots and for this he was executed on 2 June 1581.
