Description:
A battle between the Clan Gunn and their rivals, Clan Keith and Clan Mackay in 1426. About the engagement nothing is known, but it is believed that Clan Gunn was soundly thrashed. The chief of the Mackays, Angus Dow Mackay was taken before King James I at Inverness for outrages committed on that clan. Angus submitted himself to the King's mercy and handed over his son Neil in pledge of his obedience in time coming. The king accepted and sent Neil to Bass Rock. The battle was fought 2 km to the west of Harpsdale close to Achardale Farm.
