Description:
This is a short 45 km slightly harder walk. The West Island Way explores the length and breadth of the Isle of Bute. The route crosses a variety of landscapes, including rocky headland, seashore and sandy beach, moorland, farmland and forest, all providing a continually changing picture of Bute.
The trail is fairly well waymarked and generally suitable for inexperienced walkers but gives rough going in places, also with some boggy stretches underfoot. You might afterwards take the ferry from Rothesay to connect with the Ayrshire Coastal Path.
