St Ninian's Way

Description:

Another very long walk. You really don't have to do it all in one go! The St Ninian’s Way is dedicated to the memory of this early Christian saint and missionary, often known as the Apostle to the Southern Picts.

Starting at the ancient cathedral in Carlisle, the route goes north across the border into Scotland and west to Whithorn and St Ninian’s Chapel. From there to Glasgow the Way (also known as the "Whithorn Way") proceeds north west and along the Ayrshire coast following the major part of the Ayrshire Coastal Path. From Glasgow, mainly along canal paths and quiet roads St Ninian's Way tracks the John Muir Way to Falkirk, Linlithgow and  South Queensferry. From there on the St Margaret’s Way takes over for the remaining 65 kms to St Andrews.
