Carraig Nam Marbh (Rock of the Dead) ***

Description:

This presented me with a bit of a problem as I do not want you to expect a real exiting find. There is nothing there, nothing special to see!

A little ways past Kilninver (B844) a natural rock pier sticks out from Loch Feochan's shore. From this ‘Rock of the Dead’ (Carraig nam Marbh) the body was sailed strait across to Port nam Marbh, a small shingle bay, about a mile north of the entrance of Loch Spelvie. From there the body was carried to the royal galley and sailed to Iona and the King’s final resting place in the Reilig Òdhrain.

And that is all there is to it! The historical 'significance' combined with present day reality in front of your eyes: That is what made me 'award' this site with 3 stars. I'm sure it's just me, but this spot keeps drawing me back. Odd..I know!
