Description:
This is the largest natural loch in the area and is situated in the valley of the Yarrow Water. It is 5 kilometres long and 1 kilometre wide. It is said that the loch has no bottom (?) and is reputed to be the coldest loch in Scotland. Immediately upstream is a smaller loch, Loch of the Lowes. The Southern Upland Way, one of the best known Long Distance Walks in Scotland, crosses between the two lochs. It is considered a beauty spot!
