Description:
Greenknowe Tower belonged to the Gordon family. Although they were originally from Berwickshire they relocated north as a result of their support for King Robert the Bruce in the Wars of Independence. The tower may very well stand on the site of the Gordons’ first Scottish castle.
In the early 1600's Greenknowe passed to the Pringles and it is said that the tower was surrounded by gardens and formal parkland with even an avenue of trees flanking the original approach from the north.
