Description:

Somewhere in this area the battle of Elgin was fought in the summer of 1040. In this battle MacBeth, then 'Mormaer' of Moray and Thorfinn, Earl of Orkney, killed their cousin, the reigning king Duncan I. Historians have settled on Pitgaveny (a few kms north east of Elgin) as the most likely spot where the battle was fought.
