Ballater

On or near Long Distance Walking Trail: Deeside Way & East Highland Way

With glorious countryside all around Ballater is a truly picturesque Victorian village in the very heart of Royal Deeside AND located in the Cairngorms National Park.

The village is generally seen as one of Scotland’s most scenic visitor spots and offers a wide range of accommodation, cosy cafes, quality restaurants, excellent shopping and great links to outdoor adventure, including hiking, climbing and skiing.

Ballater is close to Balmoral Castle (Queen Victoria: "My dear paradise in the Highlands"). Other castles close by include Braemar Castle, Crathes Castle and Craigievar Castle.

A (for some) very interesting option is the Royal Lochnagar Distillery which produces one of Scotland’s most exclusive whiskies.
