John Knox House **
Region: Edinburgh
Description:
Historians are not certain whether John Knox, leader of the Scottish Reformation and founder of the Scottish Presbyterian Church, ever lived here. He may have lived in the house shortly before his death in 1572. Whether or not that’s true, the legend saved it from demolition nearly three centuries later. In the 1840s, the building attached to the John Knox House suddenly split away, allegedly revealing its residents eating breakfast at their table.
