Description:
A rather short and easy walk of only 38 km, mostly on well defined paths, with no special difficulties.
The Dava Way is based largely on the dismantled Highland Railway Line between Forres, near the Moray Coast in north-east Scotland, and Grantown on Spey in the Cairngorms National Park and provides an important link between the Speyside Way and the Moray Coast Trail. Sheltered woodland and forest either end contrast dramatically with sections of wild heather moorland and an impressive viaduct over the Divie Valley in the middle. On a clear day, as you cross Dava Moor, there are views to the north over the counties of Nairn, Inverness, Moray, Ross & Cromarty, and Sutherland whilst to the south the Cromdale Hills and the Cairngorm Mountains dominate the skyline. For people who are new to walking longer distances the Dava Way is a great start. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
