Description:
For many years this used to be an exquisite hotel but it a private house now. Ackergill could easily have been a two star castle but the public can't visit at present and it is only visible from the road as you travel along the A99 between Wick and John O’Groats.
The Sinclair Earls of Caithness were the Lords (Lairds) of the castle in the early 17th century and it was garrisoned by Cromwell's troops in 1651.
